Week 4: OWN IT October Progress Update

OWN IT October is nearly over but where the hell did October go? I can’t believe it’s Halloween already TOMORROW.

I’m not gonna lie, I did NOT finish strong in the money department lol.

For starters…I went on MacBid. It was a mistake. BUT Matt actually encouraged me to go on this dangerous, dangerous site. Since I had already found myself browsing Facebook Marketplace for an ottoman (I’m DIY-ing a space for my vanity/outfits area), I figured I would see what I could find.

It did NOT disappoint. I won a gorgeous storage ottoman for $21.67 (originally $92) when I had been finding things I loved for $30-$80 on FaceBook Marketplace.

It’s this, but “sand” aka beige.

Then I received a lovely, generous gift from my friend Ruthie (a Target gift card). Since I needed concealer and nail polish anyway, I figured I would use the gift card AND snag myself a pair of my favoirte jeans on sale.

I was actually SUPER proud of myself for this…the grand Target total: $0.89! Now I’m just waiting on the next size up of jeans to see if they are a better fit and return the others.

These, but 30% off…so $16.62

No matter how I slice it, I ended up spending more than I wanted. Oh well, we will do better next month!

Let’s look at the data: What we have spent so far in October

  • Groceries/Household: $844.20 (we kept it under $1000 - sad cheer)

  • Dining out/Alcohol/Entertainment/Misc: $916.81 - Yikes…YIKES, YIKES

  • Childcare (diapers, wipes, formula, orajel): $334.79 - sigh. It is what it is.

Money WIN: New pair of jeans purchased…WITH GIFT CARD!!! IT’S OK TO TREAT YOURSELF IF YOU HAVE THE MONEY FOR IT :) Thaaaannkkkksssss Ruthie :)

Money WIN: AVOIDED PAYING $3000 worth of medical bills. STAY PETTY MY FRIENDS. I was just going to PAY IT. But no, I called and investigated like the spy that I am. More on this later.

Money WIN: Dining and eating out goal ACHIEVED! We stayed under $350

This week I would like to work on:

  • Dining/Eating out/Entertainment - Since we actually met this goal, we will continue to build on it.

  • NO SHOPPING ALONE - I may also need to lock my phone up to avoid online shopping.

  • Following up on outstanding bills - As I mentioned earlier, I was almost swindled into paying medical bills we DID NOT owe. It only encouraged me to be more vigilant.

Money GOAL: Complete first week of NO SPEND/NEED TO SAVE November

Money GOAL: Find something to sell. I need to bring in some MONEY.

Money GOAL COMPLETED: Complete November money calendar - details STILL to come in a separate post and video. I have filmed it as well (insert painting nails emoji)
